Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki on Friday denied speculation about Polexit, saying Poland wanted to remain in the European Union (EU). The development comes a day after a landmark court ruling that experts say could lead to Poland's divorce from the EU, much like Britain's exit.

"Poland is and will remain in the family of European nations," Morawiecki said in a Facebook post, adding that joining the bloc was "one of the highlights of the last few decades" for Poland and the European Union.

Poland's Supreme Court ruled on Thursday that some articles of the EU treaty were "incompatible" with Poland's constitution and warned EU institutions not to "act outside their jurisdiction" by interfering with the country's judiciary.

In an interview with BFM-TV, French Foreign Minister Clement Bonn said the decision, which rejected EU supremacy, was "very serious ... there is a risk of Poland actually leaving the EU". "I don't want to leave Poland," he added.

Poland and the European Union are at loggerheads over judicial reforms introduced by Poland's ruling Law and Justice Party (PiS), which warned Brussels that it would jeopardize the country's democracy.

However, the EU Commission has announced that it will use all available instruments to ensure the superiority of EU law in Poland.
